Intro to aging cowgirls

It's been my experience that as an "aging cowgirl" sometimes I feel a bit out of place--like somehow I shouldn't be doing what I'm doing--or that its time to take off the boots. BUT at the same time I'm having a blast riding, learning, and being with my horses. So, I thought I'd start this blog-talking about my experiences riding with others and learning. I believe there is always a way to be with horses-if you can't ride maybe you can drive-if you can't drive or ride-you can do groundwork and training. So here goes-my first blog on a clinic I attended yesterday.

It was a great clinic-a part of the Summer Series offered by Flying T Acres in Erda Utah. A beautiful place with lots of space and views. It was offered on Mothers Day-yep-Mothers Day in the saddle-couldn't have been better for me! Flying T specializes in training Mustangs-many that come right from the desert in Utah. On this particular day I rode my gelding, Sparky. Now he did awesome! We were going through and over all sorts of obstacles, cantering around, and having a great old time. When it came time for me to try the hardest obstacle-having Sparky step up on a platform with me on him-the clinician asked if I wanted to try this one. Now-I can't really say why he asked me that-but I suspect it had something to do with my age--and my willingness to take a risk. I said sure I wanted to try the platform and little Sparky climbed right up on there with me on his back-no problem. So, I guess the deal is that I just need to keep educating those educating me-and not letting them put me in a box that says "She's too old to do this" Anyway-Happy Trails till the next post.
